Beginning in the fall of 2016, I began putting together demos of songs that would eventually become my first LP – ‘Space Suits’.

While living in Athens, GA, I wanted to create something where I would bear the responsibility of creative control. I began to challenge the breadth of my musicianship and ear as a producer and engineer by making an LP. Halfway through the project, I moved back to my hometown of Columbia, SC where I felt I could better connect with myself and nurture the development of the album. ‘Space Suits’ became my way of trying to embrace the space I–as a human– have to occupy and the body I have been born into – without control.

Over a year since the project began, ‘Space Suits’ was complete and ready to be shared. 4 singles were released in the fall of 2017 and the full album on 01/26/2018.

‘Traumatic Design’, the second studio-album by Cloud Repair, examines life through a lens of trauma. For this album, I try to understand my experiences from this vantage point. From conception, to a young child realizing they are separate from their mother, to experiencing a loved one die, feeling betrayal, to grappling with mistakes – dramatic moments often can be replayed on repeat and dominate my experiences. I attempt to confront and separate these moments that inhibit me from seeing life clearly. Even if this is impossible, I try, and as a result, discovers a newfound freedom or knowledge. Sonically, ‘Traumatic Design’ advanced the recording and production process that ‘Space Suits’ employed with additional emphasis on voice and beat.

‘Traumatic Design’ is the second studio album by me–Richard Wells– under the stage-name, Cloud Repair. It was released May 8, 2019.
